Hong Kong, 22 October, 2009 – The CASBAA Charity Ball, the must attend charity event in the pay-TV industry social calendar, will bring the CASBAA Convention 2009 to a climatic end on Nov 6th at the Grand Hyatt, Hong Kong.
But the Bollywood themed extravaganza sponsored by Turner also has a serious mission: to raise funds for the Dream School Foundation (DSF) in Bangalore, India through CASBAA’s charity partner, Variety the Children’s Charity.
CASBAA recently announced a partnership with Variety, a major fundraiser for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in Asia. Variety brings together the entertainment industry and the general public to fund specific capital projects for needy children and organisations.
Proceeds from the CASBAA Charity Bollywood Ball will fund the purchase of computer equipment for three DSF schools, providing disadvantaged children in India with practical support through technology and communication tools normally only accessible for the most privileged schools.
“CASBAA is proud to work with Variety the Children’s Charity to help the children of India. With our strong network and unparalleled resources within the Asian subscription TV industry, the Association is committed to working closely with its members to support the community at large,” said Simon Twiston Davies, CEO of CASBAA.
“On behalf of Variety, I express our grateful thanks to CASBAA. We are delighted that more children are going to benefit through this new partnership,” said Phil Neilson, Chief Barker of Variety the Children’s Charity.
The CASBAA Convention 2009 will also see the launch of Women Media Networks (WMN) in the Asia Pacific region with a breakfast event on Nov 3rd at the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong. The event will feature a line-up of Asia’s most prominent and inspirational leaders and women from across the media industry.
WMN is a new not-for-profit media organisation creating a regional network to empower women and help them realise their full potential.
