History
At WRC-07 Iran signed the IMT opt-in footnotes 5.432B and 5.433A.

In Iran several companies offer FWA using the WiMAX 802.16d Standard operating at 3.5 GHz. Datak Telecom was the first company in Iran to provide BWA using a pre-WiMAX standard in the 2.5 and 3.5 GHz bands. Laser Telecom was the first company to deploy a WiMAX network based on 802.16d standard. The network has 80% coverage of Tehran and provides a VPN to banks and insurance companies. Mobinnet, a subsidiary of Iran Mobin, has a nation-wide WiMAX 3.5Ghz license. As of 23 September, 2011 MTN Irancell counted close to 175,000 WiMAX subscribers using its network.

Present Situation
There is extensive FSS use of C-band in Iran. In addition, several companies offer FWA using the WiMAX 802.16d Standard operating at 3.5 GHz.
National position on 3.4 – 4.2 GHz band under WRC-15 agenda item 1.1:

3 400 – 3 600 MHz

3 600 – 3 800 MHz

3 800 – 4 200 MHz

Iran is in footnote No. 5.429 which also allocates the band 3 300 – 3 400 MHz to the fixed and mobile services on a primary basis and as such can be used for BWA.
