Casbaa’s Wireless Action Group (WAG) is an industry body made up of executives from a dozen major satellite operators in the Asia-Pacific region. The group’s mandate is to conduct research, information, and advocacy activities aimed at preserving C-band satellite frequencies against possible harmful interference from new wireless systems. Asian countries are heavily dependent on C-band satellite services for geographic and climatic reasons; the WAG seeks to focus government and industry attention on the large benefits of these irreplaceable services, and to urge careful frequency planning that protects them.
C-band satellite services and broadband wireless services can successfully coexist and jointly promote economic growth and digital development, as long as the wireless services are assigned to lower frequency bands, as is the case in a growing number of jurisdictions in Asia.
