CNN ties up with Google TV
CNN is planning to come up with TV Everywhere service that would enable users to create video playlists of live video feeds that sync between their Google TV, computer and mobile phones automatically.
Speaking at the annual South by Southwest music and media conference in Austin, Texas, the general manager of CNN Digital, K.C. Estenson commented on the function. Users needs to sign in along with their cable providers in order to access CNN app where they can make use of "Open Stories," and look for CNN video including related iReport video—eyewitness reports from so-called "citizen journalists".
CNN already has been benefited by online streaming, as it has the average of 100 million video streams per month. Estenson said that last weekend CNN.com created a record by serving 342 million page views and 100 million video streams, due to the Tsunami in Japan.
Estenson gave a live demo, opened the CNN app on his iPhone and, after logging in with his cable provider, was able to watch the same CNN video that was playing on a television. Then he paused the video, went to CNN.com on a computer, and the video picked up where he left off. He was able to do the same thing with the CNN app on a Google TV.
He further added, user's playlist follows them to every device and users could build their own CNN – the subjects they love, the topics they love – stacking those videos in their queue and carrying it where they go.
