Malaysia: Another pay TV service on the way

A NEW pay TV outfit is currently undergoing trials and expected to start broadcasting soon, Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

"Eleven licences have been issued by the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry so far. Seven of them were not in service, three have started operations, while one more is undergoing trials," Deputy Minister Datuk Joseph Salang said.

He was responding to a question by Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee (BN-Setiu) whether there was any other pay TV station that has been approved by the government apart from Astro.

He dismissed concerns that Astro has been airing too many advertisements despite it being a pay TV outfit.
