Aus: Foxtel is preparing to reveal its new movie strategy
PAY-TV operator Foxtel is preparing to reveal its new movie strategy to subscribers including fewer channels and repeats, more emphasis on new releases and an improved video-on-demand service.
The Australian revealed yesterday staff at movie channel supplier Movie Network had been told the company would be closed down by the end of the year with the loss of 42 jobs. Foxtel's new line-up is expected to be implemented in the same timeframe.
Movie Network was the collective negotiating vehicle jointly-owned by Warner Bros, Disney, MGM and Village Roadshow studios.
The studios' decision to shut down the company follows Foxtel's decision not to renew its movie contracts with suppliers in favour of building its own channel line-ups in-house.
The pay-TV provider has previously flagged plans to cut the number of movie packages it offers to one and offer fewer channels in an effort to simplify its product and more closely target market segments.
