India: TV new age approach
Following the FB fan page of your favourite TV show is so passe. Now, the latest action from the most-watched programmes are literally in your pocket ” as interactive apps on your mobile phone.
This latest trick of small-screen marketing is fast catching up, with more channels creating apps for individual shows. Currently, apps for Star's Nach Baliye and Masterchef Kitchen Ke Superstar as well as India's Best Dramebaaz on Zee have become hugely popular among youngsters. Apart from comments, voting and gossip, these apps also allow the audience to engage in quizzes and games. They also give tips and recipes.
These apps are available free of cost at the app stores, which is one of the reasons for their rising demand. Even the participants of the shows are hooked on them. While chefs Vikas Khanna andSanjeev Kapoor have been promoting the Masterchef app, Neelu Waghela of the Neelu-Arvind jodi, one of the finalists of Nach Baliye, is delighted with the app. "It's easy and fun. The audience gets to keep track of what's happening on the show by the minute," she says. And what about Arvindji? "He is not too tech-savvy. But he seemed pretty consumed by the idea. My children, on the other hand, are hooked on the app, and are also helping Arvindji figure it out," shared Neelu.
