Global internet ad spend to exceed $113bn in 2013
Global internet ad spend reached $99bn in 2012, up 16.2% over 2011, and is expected to rise a further 14.6% this year to hit $113.5bn, according to a new report from GroupM.
The report, entitled This Year, Next Year: Interaction 2013, found that in 2012 internet advertising accounted for 19.5% of all global measured ad spend.
North America led in terms of overall digital advertising investment with an estimated $38.3bn, followed by Asia-Pacific ($30.6bn) and Western Europe ($24.1bn).
This year digital ad spend is tipped to reach $113.5bn, representing a 14.6% increase over 2012. That would result in a 21% share of overall ad spend. North America once again ranks first with an estimated $42.8bn, followed by Asia-Pacific ($36.8bn) and Western Europe at $26.6bn.
In the US, digital ad spend reached $35.4bn in 2012, capturing a 23% share of the overall domestic market and up 10% over the previous year. For this year, figures are expected to reach $39.7bn for a 25.4% share.
Other findings include that international e-commerce spending reached $917bn in 2012 and expected to grow 18% to a predicted $1.1bn in 2013. This volume of e-commerce generates an estimated 40% of online paid-media ad investment.
