Research into Ad-Supported Piracy

CASBAA, along with other industry groups, is looking carefully at how online piracy websites rely on advertising for the revenue – and who is placing those ads. Preliminary research has been completed on Australia and Singapore, and work is underway with respect to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Malaysia and Indonesia will be next. Our work follows the successful efforts by the Annenberg Innovation Lab at USC to throw some light onto who’s supporting piracy, and how.

Battle over Broadcasting

Renewal of the Broadcasting Law is pending before Indonesia’s Parliament, and it is throwing up real sparks, as both the Government and the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) seek final authority over licensing of radio and television entities (including pay-TV operators.) Cross-carriage in Singapore

The long-drawn out battle over the rights to broadcast the EPL in Singapore appears to be over, for this year at least, when the MDA gave Singtel an exemption allowing it to cross-carry only the EPL channels. More here
