  • Dr. Chandra shares his success mantra with students in Mumbai at Whistling Woods International Institute and Prahlad Kakar School of Branding & Entrepreneurship (PKSBE) for the next episodes of the show
  • Prahlad Kakar, Advertising Film Director for Prahlad Kakar Film Production, Dr. A. Velumani, Founder & Chairman of Thyrocare, Beena Sheth Lashkari, Director, Door Step School, Kaustubh Dhargalkar, Innovation Consultant and Pratish Nair, Director & Co-founder of PKSBE invited as eminent guests for these episodes

Mumbai, May 02, 2017: With a fresh look and format, India’s popular motivational youth show, Dr. Subhash Chandra (DSC) Show is returning to television screens from May 6th, 2017 with new episodes that highlight inspirational stories of people from different backgrounds. After shooting at New Delhi, the next episodes of the DSC Show were held today at Whistling Woods International Institute and Prahlad Kakar School of Branding & Entrepreneurship (PKSBE) in Mumbai. During these episodes, Dr. Subhash Chandra, MP, Rajya Sabha & Chairman, Essel Group & ZEE spoke on topics close to his heart – MBA versus Entrepreneurs, Job-seeker versus Job-creator” and “How is entrepreneurship in creative industries different? What is required to be a successful media and entertainment entrepreneur in 2017?” Ad Guru, Prahlad Kakar, Founder & Chairman of Thyrocare, Dr. A. Velumani, Director of Door Step School, Beena Sheth Lashkari, Innovation Consultant, Kaustubh Dhargalkar and Director & Co-founder of PKSBE, Pratish Nair were invited as special guests and change-makers for these episodes.

A successful entrepreneur himself, Dr. Subhash Chandra expounded his views on “MBA versus Entrepreneurs; Job-seeker versus Job-creator” saying, “India is a country of entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship runs in our blood since we know how to succeed with limited resources, which is the pre-requisite for running a successful business. This behaviour arises in Indians not out of choice but out of requirement; but that is what successful entrepreneurs do, they turn limitations into opportunities.”

Elaborating further, Dr. Chandra said, “For an economy to flourish and be successful, we need both – Entrepreneurs and MBAs, Job-creators and Job-seekers. Neither is better or worse; each path has its own risks and rewards. However, both are essential parts of the system and it is upto each individual to find his or her calling and to strive for perfection. It is a universal truth that if you aim for excellence, you will be successful in whatever you do.”

Sharing insights and examples from his own experience in the Media and Entertainment industry, Dr. Chandra spoke on “Entrepreneurship in Creative Industries” saying, “The Indian Media & Entertainment (M & E) industry stood at Rs. 1,26,200 crores in 2016 as per the FICCI-KPMG Media and Entertainment Report 2017 and is expected to almost double its current size by the year 2020. We can therefore see that there is much opportunity for growth in this industry. To become a successful entrepreneur in the M & E industry or for that matter in any industry, you need to have a strong product on offer which is unique from any other existing product or you need to cater to an audience that has not been tapped before. By experimenting with new and creative offerings, you can keep the interest alive for your audiences, your employees and yourself.”

The Story Of Bernie Madoff Ponzi Scheme Debuts Same Time As The U.S. On May 21 At 8am (7am Thai.Jkt) Exclusively On HBO.

Also Available On HBO ON DEMAND And Online On HBO GO

SINGAPORE, 3 MAY 2017 – In 2008, stockbroker, investment advisor and financier Bernie Madoff made headlines around the world when he was arrested for perpetrating perhaps the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. Debuting same time as the U.S. on Sunday, May 21 at 8am (7am Thai.Jkt), with a same day primetime encore at 9pm (8pm Thai.Jkt), exclusively on HBO, the HBO Original Film THE WIZARD OF LIES examines Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme – his deception, lies and cover-up, all as the financier’s wife and sons are catapulted into a harsh and unrelenting spotlight. The movie will also be available on HBO ON DEMAND* and online on HBO GO*.

Robert De Niro (Oscar® winner for “Raging Bull” and “The Godfather II”) comes to HBO for the first time in the role of family patriarch Bernie Madoff. Also on HBO for the first time, Michelle Pfeiffer (Golden Globe winner for “The Fabulous Baker Boys”) stars as Ruth Madoff, Bernie’s longtime spouse and unwitting partner during the events that would lead to financial ruin for countless people and institutions, as well as his and his family’s destruction.

THE WIZARD OF LIES is directed by Barry Levinson from a script by Sam Levinson and John Burnham Schwartz and Samuel Baum, based on Diana B. Henriques’ 2011 New York Times bestselling book “The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust,” which featured unprecedented access and more than 100 interviews, including Madoff’s first interviews for publication since his arrest. “Truth and Consequences,” by Laurie Sandell, is additional source material.

The film also stars Alessandro Nivola (“American Hustle”) as Mark Madoff, Bernie and Ruth’s oldest son, and Nathan Darrow (“House of Cards”) as Andrew Madoff, their youngest son, both of whom worked with their father at his investment firm. Strong Copyright The Engine Of Creative Innovation Heralded During World IP Day In Asia Pacific

Singapore: Robust copyright provides the foundation for creative communities to innovate and flourish was the common theme for filmmakers and film lovers as they gathered to celebrate World IP Day in fourteen Asia Pacific countries including Australia, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

A range of activities promoted the talent and hard work that goes into some of the year’s most popular international titles (Beauty and the Beast, Hidden Figures and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), along with local feature films Galih & Ratna from Indonesia and a Singapore-Thai co-production Pop Aye.

Film communities hosted educational events aimed at raising awareness and respect for the role of intellectual property, and highlighted recent measures to help combat online piracy such as the Infringing Website List (IWL) initiative, blocking access to major pirate websites, and a range of voluntary agreements with stakeholders. The events were hosted by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), U.S. Embassies, Consulates and local film industries.

World Intellectual Property (IP) Day is an initiative of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and has been celebrated annually on April 26 since its inception in 2001. This year, the theme is ‘Innovation – Improving Lives’.

Around the region, Government, Embassy and industry spokespeople took the opportunity to encourage people to pay special attention to the importance of intellectual property and the creative industries:

Addressing over 100 industry professionals and students at a screening event in Singapore, Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath, Chargé d’affaires, U.S. Embassy Singapore, said, “This World IP Day, we celebrate the contributions made by creative minds everywhere whose new ideas drive human progress across a wide range of activities, cultural, scientific, technological and economic. However, as we celebrate our achievements, we must also be mindful of the need to ensure that innovation keeps coming and that innovative ideas are protected. We are proud to be partnering with the Motion Picture Association to recognize the importance of IP.”

In the Philippines, the U.S. Embassy, Intellectual Property Office Philippines (IPOPHL), Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI), Southeast Asia’s online video service – iflix, Solar Entertainment, the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) and the MPA came together to pledge renewed efforts to prevent online piracy and illegal camcording at a press briefing and presentation of the IWL initiative, as well as a special screening of Fast & Furious 8.

“Ad misplacement on these infringing sites may damage the reputation of brands. We do not want our brands to be associated with pirate sites that are engaged in criminal activities,” said Meryl Adiel Timbol-Hernandez, President, PANA. “Intellectual property crime damages industries that invest in producing legitimate goods and content, and costs the economy. Through the IWL, we, as part of the digital ad industry, are helping ensure that our advertisers and agencies that it is not helping fund piracy.”

“The cross-cutting importance of Intellectual Property in the economic competitiveness in the country cannot be stressed enough. IP involves not only various business sectors, but also the health and safety industry sectors; creative, innovation, and research and development sectors; inventors and other stakeholders, consumers, enforcement efforts, among others more,” stressed Josephine Santiago, Director General, Intellectual Property Office Philippines (IPOPHL). “Our celebrations for the National Intellectual Property Rights Month will further public appreciation of intellectual property to the country’s social, cultural and technological development.”

“Respecting creativity is a key component in promoting the development of the local creative industry. It is good to see that our industry has been working hard to establish the Infringing Website List to combat online piracy and strengthen copyright protection on the internet. I hope the government would support such a positive action,” said Hong Kong Legislator Councillor member, the Hon. Ma Fung-kwok (representing the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication).

In Vietnam, the MPA partnered with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the US Embassy Hanoi, CGV and the Vietnam Copyright Alliance to host a film workshop, screening and launch a new copyright protection trailer. Mr. Tran Nhat Hoang, Deputy Director of the International Relations Department, Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, said, “World IP Day is an occasion for all of us to recognize creators and artists for their contribution. The Government of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism are strong supporters of innovation and creativity. I trust the young Vietnamese of today can and should be able to make a living with their passion and we should express our appreciation for their labor and give them our support.”

Michael C. Ellis, President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific, MPA, said, “For filmmakers to continue to innovate, we need to ensure that they are incentivized for their work. And the best way for all of us to contribute to that environment is to respect their work and pay to access their films and TV shows through legitimate channels, whether at the cinema, on TV, or via one of the many, many new online services available to us.”

Every year MPA Asia Pacific works alongside local stakeholders to organize outreach programs during World IP Day to foster greater interaction among creative communities, various government agencies and students from all levels. These programs provide a platform for people to discuss, share and demonstrate how respect for IP can shape the future and contribute to a more vibrant global economy.

Okay, it’s now official.  FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said he wants to “repeal and replace” the Wheeler FCC’s order for sweeping “Net Neutrality”-based regulation of ISPs as utility providers.  Net Neutrality, he said, was a bit of regulatory overreach that wasn’t needed: “Nothing about the internet was broken in 2015.” A few smart commentators noted that ensuring a free and open internet doesn’t require full-on utility regulation; I agree with that.  But Pai’s speech yesterday didn’t provide any details, and I want to know what will he replace it with?   There were previous reports he would advocate a code-of-practice system to deter internet providers from interfering with legitimate web traffic, but that wasn’t in the speech.  Never mind…..the Internet lit up with the usual commentaries about how the change in regulatory approach would “Nuke the Internet.”   Yawn; I get so tired of Internet Imbeciles who can’t make a coherent policy argument about public policy issues.

Meanwhile, Canada’s regulators are going in the other direction, installing broad net neutrality rules in that country and banning “zero-rating” for content supply services.

Ajit Pai, by the way, is consistent in his deregulatory approach.  He’s also said he wants to do a top-to-bottom review and get rid of outmoded broadcasting rules!!!  (Hooray….finally a regulator who might actually DO something about the tilted playing field.)   He’s also going to look at amending or doing away with media ownership restraints that look pretty senseless in the Internet Age.  (“It makes no sense for the government to be discouraging investment in the newspaper industry,” Pai said last year.)

Some interesting news this week with Google announcing that it is rolling out programmatic technology that will allow advertisers and agencies to manage video campaigns across digital AND linear TV. Historically, TV and digital advertising have been bought and measured through different systems and currencies. This is something of a reinvention for Google who originally attempted this as far back as 2008 but with only moderate success and the project was finally dropped in 2012 – definitely something to watch this time around.

Netflix’s long time struggle to enter the Chinese market has finally come to an end this week as they established a licensing deal with local video service, iQiyi owned by internet search giant Baidu. Already reaching 100 million subscribers just last week and having their shares at an all-time high, this deal will further put them ahead of their competitors.  It’s not clear to us how iQiyi plans to cope with the “full season clearance only” policy of mainland content regulators.  Netflix, of course, pioneered making whole series available to consumers for binge watching.  And, while there have been doubts about the wisdom of that strategy, some of the traditional-network competitors have put their toes into the water too.

A few weeks ago we covered the Vietnamese government’s tiff with Facebook and YouTube, over hosting of politically sensitive videos.   Last week, a Facebook delegation showed up in Hanoi to meet with the MIC Minister and talk about curbing “toxic content.”
