Netflix lost 25% of streaming traffic to Olympics, report says
NEW YORK (August 2, 2012) — In the competition for streaming video eyeballs, Olympic gold stole some of Netflix’s luster this weekend.
Netflix streaming in the U.S. fell 25% “from normal levels” this past Sunday, according to a Procera Networks report this week. The report pinned the blame squarely on the Games, which kicked off July 27.
Last week, Reed Hastings and Co. warned in Netflix’s earnings report that Olympic viewing will have “a negative impact” for the current quarter — on both Netflix (NFLX) watching and on new subscriptions.
