returns to ITV Choice
Alan Titchmarsh returns with a second series of Masterpiece. The brainchild of the renowned gardener, Masterpiece is a unique antiques game show taking place in glamorous stately homes across Britain.
Along with his antiques expert Rachel Houston-Holland, Alan will challenge teams of antique and history fans to seek out the rarest – and most valuable – objects on display.
In each episode four teams will battle across three challenges that test their antiques knowledge. Whoever wins each round gets first choice in “The Masterpiece Challenge” a room filled with antiques, one of which is worth more than £10,000. At the end of the show each team reveals what they think is the masterpiece. Whoever chooses the most masterpieces wins the £1000 prize money.
Seven magnificent country homes will be used throughout the series: Beaulieu in Brockenhurst (home to one of the world’s biggest motor museums), Chiddingstone Castle in the Weald of Kent, Lydiard Park in Wiltshire, Burghley House in Lincolnshire (once visited by Elizabeth I), the famously haunted Owlpen Manor in the Cotswolds, Avington Park in Hampshire and Hever Castle in Kent (the childhood home of Anne Boleyn).
Alan Titchmarsh says: “I’m thrilled to be back helming my antiques quiz show that tests the skills of the nation’s enthusiasts. This year we have some amazing items in the show including a leather jacket worn by Steve McQueen, a whip used by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and antiques going back hundreds and even thousands of years – including items by Andy Warhol and Faberge. Trying to decide which one is worth more than £10,000 is not easy. What I can tell you is that some of our items are worth ten times that much. It’s also a huge privilege to be presenting the series from some of our most treasured stately homes, all of which have incredible stories to tell.”
