Singapore (November 14, 2014) — SingTel mio TV and cHK, the one-stop channel for cool, chic, and contemporary celebrity-powered Hong Kong entertainment, will be bringing viewers in Singapore a new wave of Hong Kong TV dramas. Starting 18 November, cHK (SingTel mio TV Channel 510) will air drama series produced by Hong Kong Media Production Company Limited, Hong Kong’s hottest television program producer, and a subsidiary of Hong Kong Television Limited (HKTV). All SingTel mio TV subscribers will enjoy a free preview of the channel from November 18 to December 1.
HKTV made headlines over two years ago when it brought together a number of Hong Kong’s top actors, directors and writers to produce a new wave of Hong Kong TV dramas. These dramas are characterized by movie-quality productions, complex story lines, and edgy topics tackling issues not addressed in Hong Kong TV dramas before.
The first of these dramas to premiere on cHK will be The Borderline; a gritty tale about a disgraced undercover cop forced to partner with a ruthless criminal to correct their wrongdoings and redeem themselves. The series is led by two powerful veteran actors, Liu Kai-chi and Dominic Lam.
cHK will air The Borderline in Singapore within 24 hours of its Hong Kong broadcast. The first episode will premiere on 18 November and the drama will be shown Mondays to Fridays at 10pm. The series will be shown in Mandarin on cHK, but viewers will have the choice of watching the series with the original Cantonese audio track via cHK On Demand (SingTel mio TV Channel 511).
“We are very excited that cHK will be bringing these highly-anticipated Hong Kong TV dramas to our audience in Singapore. We believe these series represent a new wave of Hong Kong TV dramas with their quality productions, star-studded casts, and fresh stories. These programs are the embodiment of cool, chic, and contemporary celebrity-powered entertainment from Hong Kong and that is what cHK is all about,” said Ofanny Choi, Executive Vice President, TV Networks, Celestial Tiger Entertainment.
“This is great news for fans of Hong Kong dramas and entertainment. We are delighted that our cHK viewers now have even more quality content to look forward to,” said Mr. Goh Seow Eng, MD of TV, SingTel. “These programs will also be available in their original Cantonese dialect. Our customers tell us this definitely adds to their viewing enjoyment. We welcome this addition to SingTel mio TV’s robust line-up of Chinese content.”
Besides The Borderline, other upcoming dramas on cHK include:
Hidden Faces – a drama centered on the personal and professional lives of three medical doctors played by acclaimed actors Frankie Lam, Ai Wai and David Chiang. The series will push the boundaries of TV with its medical realism.
Love in Time – a series about a young man who survives a village massacre, only to be cursed to walk the Earth for eternity as a vampire. With his heart turned cold, his hope of love is renewed once again when he finally meets a young woman 200 years later. The series stars Mandopop superstar Danson Tang and up-and-coming actress Michelle Wai.
Hakka Sisters – an epic story starring award-winning actress Prudence Liew and popular actress Maggie Cheung as two sisters of Hakka descent. The changing relationship between China and Hong Kong in the past 30 years is examined through the reunion of the two sisters and their ups and downs.
Besides ground-breaking TV dramas, cHK will also premiere exciting GE programs produced by HKTV, starting in December. Upcoming GE programs on cHK include:
