Korea | |||||||
History | |||||||
For many years Korea has used the Ku- and Ka-bands for FSS applications and the C-band has been very little used for FSS. At WRC-07 Korea signed the IMT opt-in footnotes 5.432A and 5.433A.
WiBro (Wireless Broadband) is the Korean version of the mobile WiMAX 802.16e Standard. It was finalized before the WiMAX 802.16e Standard was adopted by the IEEE. In Korea, this service is operated in the 100 MHz in the band 2.3 – 2.4 GHz. On July 1, 2011, SK Telecom and LG U+ launched IMT-Advanced services in Seoul at existing frequencies for mobile services. |

Present Situation | |||||||
Since the C-band is very little used in Korea for FSS, the government has plans, like Japan, of using the full C-band band, 3.4 – 4.2 GHz, for IMT-Advanced. National position on 3.4 – 4.2 GHz band under WRC-15 agenda item 1.1:
Korea is in footnote No. 5.429 which also allocates the band 3 300 – 3 400 MHz to the fixed and mobile services on a primary basis and as such can be used for BWA. |

Interference into FSS C-band Applications
There is very little use of C-band FSS and hence presumably very little interference.
