6 April 2016: Pooq secures rights to carry BBC content for OTT Services in South Korea
BBC Worldwide today announced a deal with South Korean OTT service Pooq that will not only allow viewers to live stream, catch up and watch BBC World News and CBeebies, but also watch top-rated BBC dramas and natural history programmes on demand. The announcement was made on the third day of MipTV.

They will also, via Pooq’s SVOD and TVOD services, be able to watch more than 400 hours of BBC natural history and drama content. Some of these titles include all three series of the award-winning BBC crime drama, Sherlock, seven series of Doctor Who, the longest running sci-fi TV, War and Peace, the critically acclaimed new adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s timeless novel, Doctor Foster, the highly rated drama about a GP who discovers her husband Simon is cheating on her and plots her calculated revenge; and The Hunt, a natural history landmark series narrated by Sir David Attenborough which takes an intimate and detailed look at the remarkable strategies employed by hunters to catch their prey and the hunted to escape.
“I am very excited to be working with Pooq. We are always looking for new ways to reach our audiences. With Pooq, our fans will now have greater flexibility in how they watch CBeebies and BBC World News. They will be able to take their favourite TV channels with them to watch anytime, anyplace. They will also be able to watch their favourite BBC shows anytime, at their own convenience,” said Soojin Chung, GM of North Asia for BBC Worldwide.
Pooq, a mobile on-demand service which has over 400,000 subscribers in Korea, is a joint venture of three of Korea’s top broadcasters – free to air broadcasters KBS, MBC, and SBS– that allows viewers to watch TV programmes on their devices.
